COVID-19 Update:

*** ALL TRAINING CANCELLED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE ***

With the current COVID-19 pandemic and the Alberta Governments regulations and recommendations we at the Alberta Carpenters Training Centre have made the decision to cancel all scheduled training until further notice. All training including Scaffolding, Carpentry, Introductory, Enhancement, and all Safety courses are cancelled at our locations in Edmonton, Calgary and Fort McMurray. This is to ensure the safety of our members, instructors and staff.

Our Training Centres are currently closed to members and the public. Please email us at training@abcarptc.ab.ca to submit certificates to your file or with any inquiries you may have.

If you had courses booked, there is no need to contact us as you are automatically marked cancelled and no courses are being rescheduled at this time.

We are working hard towards reintegration plans, policies and procedures for our members to attend training in the near future.

You may contact our office at 780-455-6532 with questions and concerns. With limited staff, we appreciate your understanding and corporation in these uncertain times.

SAFETY TRAINING UPDATE

Our approved provider Alberta Construction Training Institute (ACTI) has started training again in Edmonton and Calgary. If you need a safety course please contact ACTI directly at 587-340-3849. You can see their schedule here:
https://albertaconstructiontraininginstitute.ca/course-calendar/

To our Fort McMurray members, we recommend contact CICT at 780-790-1230. You can see their schedule here:
https://cict.ca/course-calendar/

Let the Approved Provider know you are a member, provide them with your union ID number. The provider will contact us directly for approval and direct billing. All Approval Requirements apply. If you take training through a provider that is NOT on our Approved Providers List, and did not receive direct prior approval from The Alberta Carpenters Training Centre, the reimbursement will NOT be processed.

CERTIFICATE EXTENSIONS

In recognition that COVID-19 will prevent some workers from renewing their certificates, Energy Safety Canada will be offering a certificate extension for the following courses:
H2S Alive
OSSA Fall Protection
OSSA Confined Space
OSSA Elevated Work Platform

For these courses, any Certificate of Completion previously issued by Energy Safety Canada (ESC) or the Oil Sands Safety Association (OSSA), that has an expiry date between January 1, 2020 and September 1, 2020 will be deemed by Energy Safety Canada to have not expired and will remain valid up to and including September 1, 2020.

OSSA Certifications must have the holographic OSSA security label and may be validated with the provider that issued the certificate.
First Aid
Red Cross - Expiry date between March - June 2020 will be extended 90 days past expiry date.
St. John Ambulance - Expiry date after March 17, 2020 Extended 90 days past expiry date.

Certificates will not be re-printed and no action is required to qualify for the extension. Member profiles with dispatch will continue to show the original expiry date. We assure you that dispatch is aware of the changes and you can continue to place your bid on jobs.

ONLINE TRAINING

Many members are interested in online training. There are many courses available online that are unacceptable on jobsites. We recommend contacting us directly for approval and recommendations before taking a online course through an unknown provider.

During this time it would be ideal to complete some of the following online courses:

CSTS 2020 and WHMIS 2015
Free through the ACSA Website

COVID-19 and ICRA Awareness
Free through the International at https://auth.carpenters.org/login

If you are having trouble logging in to the courses online, please contact the Training Centre and we would be happy to help and provide detailed step-by-step instructions.

We recommend all members visit The Alberta Regional Council of Carpenters and Allied Workers website at https://albertacarpenters.com/2020/03/covid-19-faq/ for more member information and updates.
